Speculation
Well, here are all my theories relating to the past, present, and future of David King. Not all of this will be true. Capcom has a nack for not explaining much about their characters first off, so these are just theories, put together by the little information we have of him already. Lets take a look, shall we?
The Violent past
We all know that David King has some sort of violent past. Was he abused as a child, abused as an adult, or simply some type of criminal. I go with criminal. Mainly because through several official sources it states that his experiences with violence, it can get him out of a scene of blood shed. And we all know that David can kick ass. This leads me, and many other people to believe that David King was a criminal. Perhaps he was a gang member. This is possible, because I can't imagine him to be a bigger kind of gangster, but more of a small time crook. But why did he stop being a criminal? Did he have enough of the fights, and turf wars? Or did someone he once loved get hurt? Whatever it was, it must have been bad, because he later lead the respectable life, and became a hard working plumber.
The Lone Soldier
David is always running doing his own thing during the outbreak. Why is this? Because he doesn't like talking? Well yes, but I feel there is more to it. Perhaps he is very impatient and he has a short temper while he is around people. And perhaps feels that others will slow him down -- perhaps that is why he was violent in the past.File #2 ending
David boarded a ship. But before that, he was on the phone. But who to? He finishes his phone conversation without saying good - bye, but instead, it ended like this:Hmpf.
I suppose idle talk has its place sometimes.
No, I'm being serious!
What was this all about? It is obvious that David was being rather chatty in this conversation, as he states that idle talk (Random, trivial matters) has its place. Could he have been talking to an old friend, or member of his family about the events in Raccoon City? It could be. As in Resident Evil: Outbreak file #1's ending, he has a nightmare, where he is about to be killed by zombies in the helicopter he was riding to safety in, which he wakes from by the pilot. He just says "Its a nightmare, I'll get over it" directing that to Raccoon City. Perhaps Raccoon City was his idle talk, and the person on the other end of the phone thought it was odd, him thinking about death and destruction was idle talk, and asked if he was serious. When David hung up, he pulled an annoyed looking face.
After that, he boards the ship, and watches the sun rise. When it does, it shines on his face and he smiles. Perhaps he was happy because he hadn't seen it in awhile. Or perhaps he was happy because Raccoon, the place of his violent past and nightmares, had gone forever...
